Prairie Wolf_______________ by G & G

Henry and his wife Emma found a new place to live on a huge prairie with tall grass, trees and lots of wild flowers.
They were preparing the ground so they could grow some crops; they found a baby prairie wolf.
They didn’t know what to do; it was so young and small.
Emma said, “ we can’t leave it here to die”, so she took it to the covered wagon where they had a goat.
She milked the goat and gave some milk to the baby she had wrapped in a small blanket to keep it warm.
Their children wanted to play with it, but he was to small and had fallen asleep.
The next day the children held the baby very gently and asked their Mother if they could keep him.
Mama said, “you should name him, a strong name like Alexander would be fitting.”

However, when he needed to hunt for food, he would wander off alone but always returned before dark.
One night the family was sitting out on the front steps to their cabin watching the sun go down. They heard a loud shriek and a lot of rustling in the tall grass beside their plowed field. They couldn’t see in the dark so after a few minutes, they decided to go into the house for the night.
Henry had just shut the door and sprung the lock, when Emma noticed that the youngest of her children was missing!
A very worrisome time for them, they started searching the fields, but he was nowhere to be found. The night was getting darker, it became very hard to see and Emma decided to go homeward toward their cabin.
She was tired and upset, just has she stepped onto the cabin steps she heard a noise coming from under the steps, to her great relief she found their missing child asleep under the steps with Alexander curled up in his ar
