Western world found out due to travel and communications that there are opportunities to get money from new ventures by fearing to lose their money. So mafia from Europe and con artists from the East came to fulfill their dreams to expand their network. Their intent was to make money in the trades and by corruption.
Normally, they got in businesses like a barber shop. However in the back of the shop the real enterprise was gambling, drugs, and prostitution. They also invested in the show business by using the helpless, who came to this country by providing food and shelter to them.
I was working in 1971 downtown Chicago as a supervisor. I had enough time to read and take some classes in the evening. One day, I was traveling from downtown Chicago to 111th Street in South Chicago on EL. In the station about 11:00 at night, I was waiting for the train. A few people came to ask me, “Can you loan me a dime?” I gave them a dime and told them I could not give them a loan but they could take as many dimes as I had. They joined me on the train and told me about Cicero and what activity goes on there. The sale of stolen goods was a good market. Al Capone was one of these men. The Irish mafia was policing these men so I was protected.
